HIGH-CHALLENGE SPORTS PROGRAM

At the core of AccesSportAmerica's mission is the High-Challenge sports program. These are the sports which inspire higher function and drive athletes to greater goals physically and emotionally. Depending on one's age or disability, we can recommend participation in one of our seven summer program sites. We teach windsurfing, Hawaiian outrigger canoeing, surfing, water-skiing, sailing, kayaking, rowing, wall climbing, soccer, cycling, and tennis in conjunction with program partners all over New England. When you call, we will recommend a site and program that suits you best.

FUNCTION AND FITNESS PROGRAM

Our Function and Fitness Program is designed to train our participants as true athletes. Function and Fitness is a medically prescribed year-round work-out group, geared towards individuals gaining higher function in life. Small groups of four athletes and four trainers meet weekly (and for some biweekly) in local gyms. The group works out with free weights, exercise machines, and cardio vascular equipment. Prior to starting a routine, each participant is evaluated by an AccesSportAmerica Physical Therapist. The resulting regiment can help individuals to progress levels higher in function. We believe that disabilities can be lessened and, in some cases, overcome, when individuals train properly as true athletes. We have also discovered that working towards these higher goals is best done in groups. The sense of community is strong in each Function and Fitness team, as we all help to push each other to higher rehabilitation.

YEAR ROUND HIGH- CHALLENGE SPORTS

Athletes can learn and train year round with AccesSportAmerica at our Jensen Beach, Florida site. The same quality equipment and adaptations have been brought in from New England. Windsurfing, Hawaiian outrigger canoeing, Surfing, Kayaking and Tennis are all taught at this site.

HIGH CHALLENGE TRAINING CAMP

AccessportAmerica does two intensive overnight training camps that take place in Los Angeles, California and Jensen Beach, Florida. AccesSportAmerica athletes and trainers from New England come together with local athletes and trainers from Florida and California to live and train together. These week long camps focus on building specific skills in the sports of windsurfing, Hawaiian outrigger canoeing, surfing, yoga and tennis. We believe that both sport specific and functional goals can be achieved in this intensive but relatively short training period.

Triple S

Our Soccer/Strength and Speed program is a once a week training group. We believe that soccer skills can be taught to any person of any ability and in the process inspire better conditioning, strength, higher cognition, and confidence. Athletes with various disabilities are put on teams with able-bodied partners, who help with core and lower body strengthening, stretching, speed and agility, and soccer skills. Our goals are to have fun, get our children on a higher functional plane, and to enjoy this great community of athletes and training partners. We will work on adaptations to make the experience challenging but rewarding for anyone of any physical or mental capability. This ten week program culminates in a soccer tournament.
